Office of Commercialization

The Washington State University Office of Commercialization (OC) administers development of University inventions. OC distributes royalties and other payments as described in EP38 and the Faculty Manual sections regarding intellectual property and patent policy (Sections IV.F and IV.G.)

Commercialization Fund

The operational expenses and the commercialization activities of the Office of Commercialization are funded from sources that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Allocations by the University from its annual budget.
  • Office of Commercialization’s portion of royalty allocations pursuant to EP38 and the Faculty Manual.
  • Eighty percent of the first $250,000 of royalties allocated to University pursuant to Faculty Manual Section IV.G and EP38 Section II.H, in any given fiscal year.

“Royalties allocated to University” are the University’s portion of the royalties distributed in accordance with the terms of Faculty Manual Section IV.G and EP38 Section II.H.

EXCEPTION: Royalties payable from agricultural commodities are distributed in accordance with the terms of EP38 Section II.I.
