Additional training may be required by Washington Administrative Code (WAC) when employees are assigned specific tasks or work around known hazards.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Three_0\">3.0&nbsp;&nbsp; Roles and Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"Three_1\">3.1&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Unit Administrators<\/h4>\n<p>Unit administrators inform employees of current applicable University and departmental safety policies and procedures. Likewise, unit administrators ensure that employees are aware of applicable state and\/or federal regulations and codes when circumstances warrant.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Three_2\">3.2&nbsp;&nbsp; Supervisors<\/h4>\n<p>The immediate supervisor orients and trains individuals undertaking new job responsibilities. Such individuals include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New employees<\/li>\n<li>Rehires<\/li>\n<li>Part-time and temporary employees<\/li>\n<li>Transfers<\/li>\n<li>Those assigned new job responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The orientation occurs on the first day of employment in the new job, or whenever new duties are assigned, using the <a href=\"http:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/documents\/2017\/10\/2-16-safety-orientation-checklist.pdf\">Safety Orientation Checklist<\/a> (PDF) (See <a href=\"#Three_2_a\">Section 3.2.a<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h5 id=\"Three_2_a\">3.2.a&nbsp;&nbsp; Safety Orientation Checklist<\/h5>\n<p>The immediate supervisor instructs the new employee regarding job safety requirements following the <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/documents\/2017\/10\/2-16-safety-orientation-checklist.pdf\/\">Safety Orientation Checklist<\/a> (PDF). Print the master or complete onscreen and print copies of the form. The supervisor and employee sign the checklist. The department places the signed checklist in the employee\u2019s personnel file.<\/p>\n<p>University supervisors periodically review applicable safety procedures with University employees. Supervisors determine the need and timing for repeat training.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Three_3\">3.3&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Departments<\/h4>\n<p>Departments must maintain training documentation in accordance with University records retention requirements. See <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/business-policies-and-procedures-manual\/bppm-90-01\/\">BPPM 90.01<\/a>. Trainings completed in <a href=\"http:\/\/wsu.percipio.com\">Percipio<\/a> will be tracked by Percipio.<\/p>\n<p>Departments must also ensure their employees complete recurring training as required; Contact your EH&amp;S office if you have questions about required retraining intervals. Retraining is recommended when supervisors observe employees not adhering to safe work practices.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Four_0\">4.0&nbsp;&nbsp; Requirements &amp; Procedures<\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"Four_1\">4.1&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; General Training<\/h4>\n<h5 id=\"Four_1_a\">4.1.a&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Requirements<\/h5>\n<p>All employees are required to receive the following training:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Back injury prevention and ergonomics<\/li>\n<li>Prevention of slips and falls<\/li>\n<li>Emergency and Fire Preparedness\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Note<\/strong>: At the time of initial orientation, employees are to be informed of facility specific fire exit routes and fire pull station, fire extinguisher, first aid kit and automatic external defibrillator locations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fire prevention<\/li>\n<li>Fire extinguisher operation (required annually)\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Note:<\/strong> Departments\/units\/areas may establish a fire response policy (see <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/safety-policies-procedures-manual\/sppm-2-10\/\">SPPM 2.10<\/a>). Where that policy is established, employees complete fire extinguisher training only once, in Percipio at time of hire, and receive instruction to not extinguish a fire, but evacuate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Use and care of personal protective equipment<\/li>\n<li>Office safety (see <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/safety-policies-procedures-manual\/sppm-2-78\/\">SPPM 2.78<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Asbestos training pertinent to location and position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 id=\"Four_1_b\">4.1.b&nbsp; &nbsp; Procedures<\/h5>\n<p>These training requirements are fulfilled by completing Safety Training for WSU Employees in Percipio. Fire extinguisher training may also be completed in person. Contact WSU Fire Safety at 509-335-7471 for scheduling.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Four_2\">4.2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Specific Training<\/h4>\n<h5 id=\"Four_2_a\">4.2.a&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Requirements<\/h5>\n<p>Employees who work under specified conditions are to receive training as required by the indicated state of Washington (WAC) and\/or SPPM reference. Contact Public Safety, EH&amp;S, or the applicable campus office for specific information. All required safety training, based on the duties of the position, must be completed and documented <em>before<\/em> the employee performs the relevant work.
