A limited number of additional students are accepted if the class can be taught without incurring additional costs. Regular fee-paying students are seated first.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"One_1\">1.1&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Eligible Individuals<\/h4>\n<h5>1.1.a&nbsp; &nbsp;WSU Employees<\/h5>\n<p>The following Washington State University employees are eligible for the benefit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A civil service employee holding a half time or greater appointment and having permanent status by the first day of the summer session class which her or she wants to take.<\/li>\n<li>A civil service employee on a trial service appointment meeting the above criteria.<\/li>\n<li>A faculty or administrative professional employee holding a half time or greater appointment.<\/li>\n<li>An employee covered by a collective bargaining agreement is eligible on the same basis as a civil service employee unless otherwise defined by the terms of the applicable agreement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>1.1.b&nbsp; &nbsp;Others<\/h5>\n<p>ROTC faculty and staff employed at WSU locations who meet WSU employee eligibility requirements above are eligible for the benefit on a space-available basis.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"One_2\">1.2&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ineligible Individuals<\/h4>\n<p>The following are not eligible for the fee waiver:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individuals who are not employed by WSU, other than those listed in <a href=\"#One_1\">Section 1.1<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>WSU adjunct appointment holders with no employee\/employer relationship with WSU.<\/li>\n<li>Retired employees<\/li>\n<li>Temporary hourly employees<\/li>\n<li>Nonpermanent scheduled (NPS) and nonpermanent nonscheduled (NPNS) civil service employees.<\/li>\n<li>Students, including assistants, associates, or others holding positions with student status.<\/li>\n<li>Probationary civil service and bargaining unit employees who do not complete probation prior to the deadlines indicated&nbsp;in <a href=\"#One_1\">Section 1.1<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>An employee whose employment was terminated prior to the first day of class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"One_3\">1.3&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Number of Hours<\/h4>\n<p>The summer educational benefit waiver may be used for up to four credits over the summer term. Credit hours may be in any combination of for credit or audit hours. Individuals may enroll for additional credits beyond what the waiver allows, but tuition and mandatory fees for only the first four credits associated with the eligible courses are waived.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"One_4\">1.4&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Fees<\/h4>\n<p>WSU charges each eligible individual a nonrefundable five dollar administrative fee plus any special course fees, laboratory fees, late registration charges, or late fee payment charges.<\/p>\n<h5>1.4.a&nbsp; &nbsp;IRI Not Accepted for $5 Fee<\/h5>\n<p>The five dollar administrative fee cannot be paid with an Interdepartmental Requisition and Invoice (IRI).<\/p>\n<h4>1.5&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Student Benefits<\/h4>\n<p>Individuals enrolled under the benefit are not entitled to WSU student benefits. WSU student identification cards are not issued or validated.<\/p>\n<h4>1.6&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Excepted Courses<\/h4>\n<p>The benefit may not be used for the following types of courses. (Costs for such courses are closely tied to the number of enrolled students or are related to delivery to distant locations.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Internships<\/li>\n<li>Tutorials, private lessons, or practicums<\/li>\n<li>Global Campus courses<\/li>\n<li>Independent study, including courses numbered 499, 600, 700, 702 and 800.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"One_7\">1.7&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Enrollment<\/h4>\n<h5>1.7.a&nbsp; &nbsp;Admission<\/h5>\n<p>Individuals must be admitted to WSU to receive University credit for course work. Individuals not enrolled the previous spring term must apply for admission to Summer Session in order to receive University credit for course work taken during summer term. Request summer application materials from the Admissions Office at the WSU Pullman campus or equivalent office at the non-Pullman campus of enrollment. <strong>Note:<\/strong> Individuals who seek to audit a course, but have not been admitted to WSU should contact the Office of the Registrar and refer to <a href=\"#Two_0\">Section 2.0<\/a> for audit enrollment procedures.<\/p>\n<h5>1.7.b&nbsp; &nbsp;Summer Educational Benefit Request Form<\/h5>\n<p>Complete a Summer Educational Benefit Request form to request the benefit and to initiate class registration. The form may be printed or filled in on-screen and printed.<\/p>\n<h5>1.7.c&nbsp; &nbsp;Approval<\/h5>\n<h6>1.7.c.i&nbsp; WSU Employees<\/h6>\n<p>After consultation with the employee&#8217;s direct supervisor, the head of the employee&#8217;s employing department may approve the enrollment by signing a completed Summer Educational Benefit Request.<b> Do not substitute a signature stamp for the signature.<\/b> The department head may deny the request if the essential duties of the position must be performed by the employee during class meeting times. In addition, a department head may deny a request for any of the following reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Temporary shortage of personnel.<\/li>\n<li>Seasonal work commitments.<\/li>\n<li>Temporary work-related emergencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An employee may appeal a denial to the Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer, or designee.<\/p>\n<h6>1.7.c.ii&nbsp; Late Enrollment, Time Conflict<\/h6>\n<p>The employee obtains the instructor&#8217;s signature when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Auditing a class<\/li>\n<li>Entering a class after the fifth class day<\/li>\n<li>Entering a class scheduled at a time that conflicts with another class in the employee&#8217;s schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>1.7.c.iii&nbsp; Impacted Classes<\/h6>\n<p>Impacted (high demand) courses usually do not have space available. For the Registrar&#8217;s Office to register a requester for an impacted class, they must obtain written approval from the department chair on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Summer Educational Benefit Request; and<\/li>\n<li>An Add\/Drop Enrollment Change (Summer Session) form available from the <a href=\"https:\/\/registrar.wsu.edu\/\">WSU Registrar<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>1.7.d&nbsp; &nbsp;Certification\/Verification<\/h5>\n<h6>1.7.d.i&nbsp; Human Resource Services<\/h6>\n<p>A Human Resource Services (HRS) representative signs the form to certify the eligibility of each valid WSU employee request for this benefit. <strong>Note:<\/strong> HRS does not begin signing Summer Educational Benefit Requests until one week prior to the start of each summer session.<\/p>\n<h5>1.7.e&nbsp; &nbsp;Registration<\/h5>\n<p>The requestor submits the Summer Educational Benefit Request to the Summer Session Office on the first day of class in which they plan to enroll to be eligible for the benefit for the current summer term. Submitting a completed Summer Educational Benefit Request provides course registration information in addition to requesting the benefit.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Two_0\">2.0&nbsp; &nbsp;Procedures for Audit Enrollment<\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"Two_1\">2.1&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Admission<\/h4>\n<p>Admission to WSU is not required to audit classes. If a student is enrolled for credit hours and audit hours, the student must be admitted to WSU.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Two_2\">2.2&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Audit Registration<\/h4>\n<p>Audit registration occurs during the first week of a summer session class. Students changing from audit to credit must do so by the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn365.wsu.edu\/summer-session\/deadline-finder\/\">date specified<\/a> by WSU Summer Session.<\/p>\n<p>View <a href=\"https:\/\/learn365.wsu.edu\/summer-session\/summer-courses\/\">class schedules<\/a> on the Summer Session website.<\/p>\n<p>Complete a Summer Educational Benefit Request form to request class registration for audit. The form may be printed or filled in on-screen and printed.<\/p>\n<h5>2.2.a&nbsp; &nbsp;Payment of the $5 Fee<\/h5>\n<p>Submit the completed form and the five dollar administrative fee to the Bursar&#8217;s Office, by the end of the first week of a class during the summer session. To be eligible for the tuition fee waiver, the Summer Educational Benefit Request must be submitted.
