{"id":36981,"date":"2018-04-24T14:57:07","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T21:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/?page_id=36981"},"modified":"2018-04-24T15:03:53","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T22:03:53","slug":"transitioning-from-a-wsu-owned-cell-phone-and-plan","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/transitioning-from-a-wsu-owned-cell-phone-and-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Transitioning From a WSU-Owned Cell Phone and Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content_area\" >\n<section id=\"builder-section-1524606961555\"  data-type=\"faiswsuwpsingle\" class=\"column-section pad-airy\" >\n<div   \t\tclass=\"  order-0 \">\n<h2 align=\"CENTER\">Transitioning From a WSU-Owned Cell Phone and Plan<br \/>\nTo a Personally-Owned Cell Phone and Plan<\/h2>\n<h5 align=\"CENTER\">(Effective October 1, 2007)<\/h5>\n<p>The change in University policy for ownership and use of cell phones requires\u00a0that individuals who use University-owned cell phones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtain their own service, and either<\/li>\n<li>Obtain their own cell phones, <b>or<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Make arrangements to obtain ownership of the University phones previously<br \/>\nused.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following provides guidelines for transitioning to the new system.\u00a0See <a href=\"http:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/85-00-computing-telecommunications\/85-45-cellular-telephones\/\">BPPM\u00a085.45<\/a> for ongoing procedures for the new system.<\/p>\n<p>If a department elects not to continue supporting University-supported\u00a0cell phone service for an employee, the existing service is to be cancelled\u00a0and the device is to be processed as surplus equipment in accordance with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/20-00-property\/20-76-surplus-property\/\">BPPM 20.76<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Transferring Existing Equipment<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For employees continuing to carry phones for the convenience of the\u00a0employer there may be an initial cost to the employee to retain a University-purchased\u00a0phone based on the initial cost of the phone, the age of the phone, and\u00a0resulting depreciation of the phone. The department should retain adequate\u00a0documentation to support the disposition of the device.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" width=\"71%\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"2\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"32%\"><b>Initial Cost<\/b><\/td>\n<td width=\"32%\"><b>Age<\/b><\/td>\n<td width=\"36%\"><b>Employee Acquisition Cost<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Less than $100<\/td>\n<td>Less than 6 Months<\/td>\n<td>50% of initial purchase price<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Less than $100<\/td>\n<td>More than 6 Months<\/td>\n<td>0%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>More than $100 and<br \/>\nLess than $200<\/td>\n<td>Less than 1 Year<\/td>\n<td>50%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>More than $100 and<br \/>\nLess than $200<\/td>\n<td>More than 1 Year<\/td>\n<td>0%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>More than $200<\/td>\n<td>Less than 1 Year<\/td>\n<td>50%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>More than $200<\/td>\n<td>More than 1 Year and<br \/>\nLess than 2 Years<\/td>\n<td>25%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>More than $200<\/td>\n<td>More than 2 Years<\/td>\n<td>0%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><b>Transferring Plans<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If the employee already has a plan, the procedures for transferring\u00a0a WSU Sprint-Nextel Corporate Business Plan to a personal account for<br \/>\ncellular services are as follows.<\/p>\n<p>Employees have three options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remain with Sprint-Nextel and transfer to the Employee Value Program\u00a0(EVP),<\/li>\n<li>Transfer to another provider (i.e.; Verizon, AT&amp;T, etc.), or<\/li>\n<li>Terminate the WSU Sprint-Nextel account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If an account is being transferred, the employee may keep the cellular\u00a0phone number with the approval of the department.<\/p>\n<p>It is the responsibility of the employee or department to contact the\u00a0service provider for service options and costs.<\/p>\n<p><b>The transition time period is expected to be accomplished within six\u00a0months of October 1, 2007.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Transfer to Sprint Employee Value Program<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If the department is transferring WSU Sprint-Nextel cellular service\u00a0to the Employee Value Program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The department fills out a request to terminate service using the online\u00a0service request forms at\u00a0http:\/\/infotech.wsu.edu\/communications\/.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Select <b>Service Request Forms<\/b>. After entering Network ID, select\u00a0the <b>Sprint-Terminate Service<\/b> form.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate on the form a desire to transfer to the Sprint Employee Value\u00a0Program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Download the Application for Transfer of Service form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete customer&#8217;s portion of the Application for Transfer of Service\u00a0form and fax the form to Information Technology Communication and Network\u00a0Services (CNS) at 509-335-5525, Attn: Shona Sorensen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>CNS completes the transferee&#8217;s portion of the form and faxes the completed\u00a0form to Sprint-Nextel. CNS notifies the customer that the form has been\u00a0sent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the customer receives notification, the customer contacts Sprint-Nextel\u00a0Corporate Support; telephone 888-788-4727 for preapproval. Preapproval\u00a0constitutes a credit check and is required for new customers. For some\u00a0customers, a one-year deposit may be required to set up an account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The transfer process may take up to two or three billing cycles to become\u00a0effective in Sprint&#8217;s billing system.<\/p>\n<p><b>Transfer to an Alternate Provider<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If the department is transferring a WSU Sprint-Nextel cellular number\u00a0to an alternate provider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The department fills out a request to transfer service using the online\u00a0service request forms at\u00a0http:\/\/infotech.wsu.edu\/communications\/.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Select <b>Service Request Forms<\/b>. After entering Network ID, select\u00a0the <b>Sprint-Terminate Service<\/b> form.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select <b>Transfer to Alternate Cellular Provider<\/b> and enter the\u00a0alternate cellular provider&#8217;s name. Enter the employee&#8217;s departmental fax\u00a0number in the comments field. Also enter a contact name and telephone number\u00a0of the alternate cellular provider in the comments field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>CNS completes the transferee portion of the Application for Transfer\u00a0of Service form and faxes the partially completed form to the employee&#8217;s\u00a0department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The department completes the customer portion of the Application for\u00a0Transfer of Service form and forwards the form to the alternate provider.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>CNS sends billing information to the alternate cellular provider, completing\u00a0the transfer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Terminate WSU Sprint-Nextel Account<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If the department is terminating a WSU Sprint-Nextel account.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The department fills out a request to terminate service using the online\u00a0service request forms at\u00a0http:\/\/infotech.wsu.edu\/communications\/.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Select <b>Service Request Forms<\/b>. After entering Network ID, select\u00a0the <b>Sprint-Terminate Service<\/b> form.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select <b>Terminate Sprint Service<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>CNS sends a request to terminate service to Sprint-Nextel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Sprint&#8217;s billing cycle ends on the 28th of each month. CNS stops\u00a0departmental billing, effective the end of the current month if the request\u00a0is processed prior to the 28th.
