E, Extended Professional Activities.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty authored, edited, or prepared scholarly materials; see Faculty Manual Section IV.I., Use of Faculty Authored, Edited, or Prepared Scholarly Material.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"Two_0\">2.0&nbsp; &nbsp;Definitions<\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"Two_1\">2.1&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Outside Assigned Duties<\/h4>\n<p>Activities outside assigned duties is defined as &#8220;faculty scholarly and scientific activities, beyond their core assigned duties, which contribute to WSU\u2019s mission to create, transfer, distribute, and document scholarly and scientific knowledge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Two_2\">2.2&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Consulting<\/h4>\n<p>Consulting is defined as \u201cfaculty providing professional expert advice related to their scholarly, technological, and scientific expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Three_0\">3.0&nbsp; &nbsp;Approval<\/h3>\n<p>In the case of compensated outside service or extended professional activities, each employee discloses and obtains approval from the appropriate department chair or other supervisor for an activity beyond the employee&#8217;s WSU duties within five working days of the commencement of the activity. See <a href=\"#Five_0\">Section 5.0<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Three_1\">3.1&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Disclosure and Pre-Approval<\/h4>\n<p>Specific outside activities involving direct compensation to a faculty member outside of the faculty member\u2019s regular University appointment may require disclosure and pre-approval, in accordance with the University ethics policy. See <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/business-policies-and-procedures-manual\/bppm-10-65\/#Six_0\">UPPM 10.65, Section 6.0<\/a> for requirements and procedures.<\/p>\n<p>The faculty member may submit a disclosure or pre-approval request form or submit a memorandum. See <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/business-policies-and-procedures-manual\/bppm-10-65\/#Six_1\">UPPM 10.65, Section 6.1<\/a> for a link to the form or the list of required information for the memorandum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>All outside compensated activities must still be reported in an annual report. (See <a href=\"#Five_0\">Section 5.0<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Four_0\">4.0&nbsp; &nbsp;Scholarly Material Royalties<\/h3>\n<p>Students may be required to use textbooks or material written or created by a WSU faculty member. If a faculty member assigns<em> their own work<\/em> to a class or lab, they may not receive any financial gain from the sale of those materials for that specific class or lab (RCW 42.52.030).&nbsp;Any royalties from such sales must be declined, or donated to WSU, by the faculty member.<\/p>\n<p>The faculty member must report annually regarding the sale of such materials and the disposition of royalties. See <a href=\"#Five_0\">Section 5.0<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Five_0\">5.0&nbsp; &nbsp;Annual Report<\/h3>\n<p>By November 1, each employee having commercial involvements in areas related to their University responsibilities submits a summary of those activities to the approving supervisor or department chair using the Annual Report of Outside Compensation for Faculty form. (See <a href=\"#form\">Form<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Using the same form, the department compiles an annual report of activity for each academic year. (For this purpose, an academic year begins August 16 and runs through August 15.) The supervisor\/department chair and the campus vice chancellor for academic affairs, if applicable, sign the form with the compiled information and route it to the dean or director for signature.
