This SPPM revision includes the following changes:
7.10 Requirements for Driving University Vehicles on University Business
This revision:
- Changes title of SPPM Chapter 7 from “Motor Vehicle Safety.”
- Changes title of policy from “Driving Vehicles on University Business.”
- Updates Operator Responsibilities and Emergency and Post-Accident Guidelines forms associated with this policy.
- Updates the Overview (Section 1.0).
- Adds a definition for department-owned vehicles.
- Expands the definition of University vehicles to include any vehicle (not just motor vehicles) that are used to conduct University business.
- Updates driver requirements prior to operating vehicles as follows:
- Removes requirement of verbal verification from driver that their record is free of all DES excluding driving criteria.
- Updates the required training and instructions on how to access training for all drivers.
- Updates driver license requirement and types of vehicles that require a CDL.
- Adds exception for WSU police officers to use radar detectors.
- Adds restriction that hands-free mode on electronic devices is restricted to a single touch.
- Updates list of required items to be carried in vehicles.
- Adds exception for WSU police vehicles to display the “how is my driving” sticker.
- Changes “internal self-insurance” to “vehicle loss reserve fund” throughout the policy.
- Removes reference to driver’s driving abstract to van operation requirements.
- Clarifies that endorsements and training for the type of vehicle being operated is required and completed.
7.20 University Vehicle Accidents
This revision:
- Changes Chapter 7 title from “Motor Vehicle Safety.”
- Changes policy title from “Motor Vehicle Accidents.”
- Updates name and email for Risk Management.
- Clarifies that the driver’s supervisor submits the accident report and repair estimates to Risk Management.
- Changes all references from “motor vehicles” to “University vehicles.”
