SPPM Revision #124

This SPPM revision includes the following changes:

Level 3 and Level 4 Safety, Health, and Security Committees and Meetings 2.12

This revision updates the requirements to provide flexibility, structure, responsibilities, membership, and functions for safety committees and meetings, as required by WAC 296-800-130, -13020, and -13025.

Respiratory Protection Program 2.62

This revision:

  • Moves this section from SPPM Chapter 3: Shop/Agriculture Workplace Safety (Section 3.24) to SPPM Chapter 2: General Workplace Safety. This move reflects that the University’s respiratory protection program applies to ALL employees.
  • Updates campus EH&S departments’ responsibility regarding administration of the respiratory protection program.
  • Updates the procedures for obtaining medical evaluation regarding employee use of respirators.
  • Updates supervisor, employee, and campus EH&S departments’ responsibilities regarding activities related to the respiratory protection program.
  • Adds contact information for the campus EH&S offices.

Hearing Conservation 2.64

This revision:

  • Moves this section from SPPM Chapter 3: Shop/Agriculture Workplace Safety (Section 3.21) to SPPM Chapter 2: General Workplace Safety. This move reflects that the University’s hearing conservation policy and procedures applies to ALL employees.
  • Clarifies the noise exposure threshold.
  • Clarifies the methods available for obtaining copies of the hearing WAC regulations.
  • Adds campus EH&S contact information.

Confined Spaces 2.68

This revision:

  • Moves this section from SPPM Chapter 3: Shop/Agriculture Workplace Safety (Section 3.32) to SPPM Chapter 2: General Workplace Safety. This move reflects that the University’s confined spaces policy and procedures applies to ALL employees.
  • Clarifies the policy topics and indicates that each campus implements a campus-specific confined space program as part of the campus accident prevention program.
  • Clarifies campus EH&S and campus Facilities Services responsibilities regarding access to confined spaces.
  • Adds campus EH&S contact information.

Compressed Gases and Gas Cylinders 2.80

This new section provides responsibilities and requirements for storing, using, and/or handling compressed gases.
