This SPPM revision includes the following changes:

General Requirements for Personal Protective Equipment 2.60

This revision:

  • Moves this section from SPPM Chapter 3 to SPPM Chapter 2. The move reflects that the policy and procedures regarding PPE apply to all WSU employees, students, and visitors.
  • Updates campus EH&S departments’ responsibility regarding noise and respiratory hazard assessments.
  • Updates supervisor responsibilities regarding PPE.
  • Updates recommended hazard controls.
  • Updates the description and provides the online location of the PPE Hazard Assessment and Certification Guidelines.
  • Clarifies training resources and documentation requirements.

Machinery Safeguards 2.71

This revision:

  • Moves this section from SPPM Chapter 3 to SPPM Chapter 2. The move reflects that the machinery safeguards policy and procedures apply to all WSU departments and employees.
  • Clarifies the requirements for documentation of machine inspections.
  • Adds contact information for obtaining machine safety assistance from the campus EH&S offices.
  • Updates example illustrations.

Safety Footwear 3.16

This revision:

  • Changes the title of the section from Safety-Toe Footwear.
  • Expands the policy and requirements for providing safety footwear to each employee exposed to hazards that could injure their feet.
  • Expands hazard evaluation and further assistance resources from WSU Pullman EH&S to the campus EH&S departments.
  • Adds a shoemobile purchasing method for WSU Vancouver employees.
  • Updates the purchasing options for employees who choose to purchase safety footwear from vendors other than a WSU-contracted shoemobile vendor.

Wildfire Smoke 6.56

This revision:

  • Changes the title of the section from Wildfire/Outdoor Smoke and Particulates.
  • Expands the responsibilities for incorporating wildfire smoke procedures and guidelines to include WSU campuses, as well as college, departments, and units.
  • Adds U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Air Quality Index measures to the policy scope.

Requirements for Driving Vehicles on University Business 7.10

This revision:

  • Removes two SPPM forms: 1)Full-Size Van Driver Safe Driving Practices Acknowledgement Statement, and 2) Full-Size Van Driver Valid License to Drive and Driving Experience Statement. These forms are replaced by hyperlinks to state forms published by the Department of Enterprise Services (DES).
  • Adds hyperlinks to DES policies and procedures applicable to motor vehicle operation.
  • Adds the requirement to maintain copies of required items in all vehicles, including personal vehicles used for University business.
