This UPPM revision includes the following changes:


10.70 Risk Management

This revision: 

  • Updates the composition of the Risk Management Executive Committee (RMEC) by eliminating the listing of specific positions and referring to the President’s Office website;
  • Updates the roles and responsibilities of the Risk Management Executive Committee (RMEC), particularly regarding the process of halting potentially dangerous or harmful activities;
  • Adds Risk Management responsibility for reviewing WSU facility use requests by outside parties under WAC 504-35-022; and
  • Adds specified investigations to the responsibilities of Risk Management.

10.17 Internal Investigations

This revision:

  • Updates the requirements for investigative unit procedures, training, and documentation;
  • Adds language regarding the role of the University’s Chief Compliance and Risk Officer;
  • Updates investigative unit areas of responsibility (Section 4.0); and
  • Adds Resources, specifically “Reporting at WSU” link (Section 5.0)

50.30 Workplace Violence

This revision:

  • Updates the Workplace Violence Incident Report form;
  • Expands the definition of “workplace violence” in Section 3.0;
  • Provides additional information and requirements regarding incident reporting, including specific roles and responsibilities;
  • Adds HRS investigation processes and information regarding faculty investigations; and
  • Cites additional resources.

30.29 Post-Season Athletic Competitions

This revision:

  • Updates the policy and procedures in accordance with current regulations and practices related to travel expenses for post-season athletic events;
  • Sets forth additional procedures regarding travel for Regents and guests; and
  • Provides information regarding tax implications and processes to ensure proper reporting.

88.30 Online Privacy

This new policy updates and formalizes, in policy, legally required information on how WSU protects the privacy of users of its websites and how it uses information obtained through its websites, including automatically collected information and information provided by users.


10.15 Legal Advice and Representation

This revision:

  • Incorporates UPPM 10.14 Legal Services (UPPM 10.14 will be retired);
  • Expands on the purpose of the policy, the role of the AGO, and the process for hiring private attorneys to represent WSU;
  • Simplifies the process for employees requesting representation; and
  • Clarifies requirements for employees who receive complaints and other legal documents requiring a response from WSU.

60.34 Telework and Remote Work 

This proposed revision updates the Workday approval process for faculty telework arrangements by requiring Provost approval for all faculty telework arrangements (other than incidental telework), regardless of campus, in addition to the approval of the department chair/director, dean, and vice chancellor for academic affairs (if applicable).


Retired Policies

60.75 Rental of University Housing to WSU Employees: This policy does not reflect current practices for renting University apartments to WSU employees. Prioritization of student housing will be clearly posted to the HRS website.

60.79 Unemployment Compensation Claims: Instructions for departments to forward documents related to unemployment compensation claims they receive is available on the HRS website.
